Ironton Pitcher Commits To KSU Tusc

Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2024 Ironton High School senior to their baseball team.

On Wednesday, Chaydan Kerns signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

Kerns, a pitcher/infielder was a four-year letter winner for the Fighting Tigers baseball team and a multi-year letterman for the orange and black's golf team as well. In baseball he earned a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Second Team as a junior, was voted Second Team All-OVC in golf his junior and senior seasons and Honorable Mention as a freshman. The Tigers play in the OHSAA Southeast District in DIII.

Academically, he achieved the "A/B" Honor Roll as a senior and was on the 3.0 Honor Roll during his sophomore and junior years.

He will pursue a bachelor's degree in business management at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"Chaydan is a proven ball player and has pitched in a lot of big games for Ironton," said KSU Tuscarawas Head Baseball Coach Cole Morozek. "More than likely he will be in our starting rotation and see some infield time as well. He's an excellent student, on the field and in the classroom. At his signing, many people had praises for him, so I know we are getting a quality young man."
