Defensive Woes Haunt Golden Eagles in Loss at Stratford

The Golden Eagles gave up 54 first half points in a 105-64 loss to Stratford University in Newport News, VA. The Eagles trailed by 17 at halftime (54-37) but couldn't contain the Cardinals inside scoring onslaught as six Stratford players scored in double figures for the game. Despite the loss, Golden Eagles leading scorer Gunnar Tharp, canned 29 points for the game to lead all scorers while knocking down seven of 16 three point attempts.

Also in double figures for the Golden Eagles were Malik Campbell (Canton, OH / Canton South) with 11 points and Drew Williams (Akron, OH / Kenmore-Garfield) with 10. Campbell also led the navy and gold in rebounds with six. The rest will be shortlived as the Golden Eagles face-off with Stratford again on Sunday.
