For the second time in the past three weeks, Golden Eagles senior guard, London Cobbs (Chicago, IL) has been named the USCAA Division II Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week. It is the seventh time since the 2019 season that a Golden Eagles men's basketball player has won the award and the second for Cobbs who also earned USCAA D2, Second Team All American honors last season.
In a road win at NCAA DII, Central State University last Wednesday, Cobbs led all scorers with 28 points and converted on 12/16 field goal attempts (75%). He was also 2/4 from three-point range, a perfect 2/2 from the charity stripe to go along with a team high 8 rebounds and 5 assists. On Sunday, he followed that game up with a 22-point performance against Andrews University making 8/14 action shots (57%), was 2/4 from long distance and 4/5 from the free throw line to go along with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and two steals.
For the week he averaged 25 ppg, 67% shooting from the floor (20/30), 50% from behind the three-point arc (4/8), 86% from the free throw stripe (6/7), 7.5 rebounds per game and 4.5 assists.
Cobbs led the Golden Eagles in scoring in 2022 and is currently first on the team in scoring average at 17.1ppg, has scored 461 points which is ranked 12th best in USCAA D2, averages 78% from the free throw line (97/124) putting him fifth overall, and has converted on 51% (176/348) of his field goal tries on the season. Not just a scorer, Cobbs also has 47 steals and 134 rebounds to his credit.
Earlier this season he eclipsed the 1000 career points mark, which makes him one of three KSU Tusc players to do so during the 2022-23 season.
