The Kent State Tuscarawas softball team opened the Spring 2019 season dropping a doubleheader to visiting PSU Beaver on Wednesday afternoon. The Navy and Gold were beaten 24-0 in five innings in the opener and lost 11-3 in the late game.

It was all Lady Lions in the opener as they belted out 28 hits and limited the Golden Eagles to just six safeties in the first game. They opened the game with two triples, a double and three singles as they spotted themselves and 8-0 advantage before the side was retired. The visitors would add five more in the second inning and also had a huge 11-run fourth inning in the victory. Lindsay Caldwell had the only extra base hit in the first game for the Golden Eagles when she smacked a double to centerfield in the fourth inning.

In the nightcap, Beaver jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the visiting half of the third inning, only to see the Golden Eagles close the gap to 3-2 after three complete innings of play. Karlee Peach hit an RBI single to score Lindsay Caldwell who started the inning off with a single followed by a base hit by Laken Ward. Sabrina Smith then stroked a double to center field that scored Ward as the Eagles left two runners stranded, but managed to close the scoring gap. The Eagles Kasey Fliger had a double in the game as well.

The Lions plated four more runs in the top of the fourth on three Golden Eagles errors, and added two more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings after squelching two KSU Tusc rallies over the middle innings. Beaver would end the game with 17 hits while the Eagles managed eight hits, each by a different hitter.

The Golden Eagles host PSU Dubois on Tuesday, April 9th for a double header that begins at 1 p.m.
