Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2024 Dover High School senior to their softball team.

On Wednesday, Lainey Kohler signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

Kohler, primarily a /shortstop, was a three-year letter winner for the Crimson Tornadoes softball team and has been recognized multiple times for her prowess on the diamond and in the classroom. In 2024 she received the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award and was Honorable Mention East District II in 2022 and 2023. She was also recognized as Honorable Mention East Central Ohio League (ECOL) in 2022 and is on track to earn ECOL and East District honors again this year.

Academically, Kohler has been named a DHS Scholar Athlete as a freshman, junior and senior. Her volunteerism includes assisting at a local food bank.

She will pursue a degree in veterinary technology at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"We are excited to have Lainey on board and know that she will make an immediate impact," said KSU Tuscarawas Head Softball Coach Larry Schall. "There's a ton of softball talent in Tuscarawas County and she is in the upper echelon of those players. She is consistent at the plate, has some power in her swing, is quick on the bases and plays great defense. Dover is a softball powerhouse and we're glad Lainey chose to stay home and be part of the Golden Eagles 2024-25 season that we expect to be a great one."
