Email: lschall5@kent.edu

Coach Schall had played baseball for more than 20 years, when he realized that he could use the knowledge he had gained from his experience and pass it along to his daughter. Soon, he realized his goal of coaching, but wanted to create even better young ladies who would be even better adults in the future. He started with tee ball and worked his way up to coach high school players and eventually collegiate travel teams.

His teams have performed at a high level and recently won seven tournament championships, one runner-up finish and third place at the USA Eastern Nationals. On July 23, 2023 the headed to the Gulf Shores National Championship in Alabama where they won a national title. For the summer 2023 season, they amassed an overall record of 56-14.

Eight current players from his Velocity Fastpitch team---located in Norton, OH---have committed to collegiate softball teams including; Ohio Northern, Heidelberg, Thiel College, Union College, Hocking College, Malone University, Tri C and Lake Erie College. He has been coaching the team since for seven years and all of his players have maintained a 3.0 or better GPA with two players already enrolled in their freshman year of college---early enrollment.

Coach Schall’s teams have travelled all of the state and the Midwest to play in tournaments and he has many connections at the high school and college levels. As a member of club travel organizations he has been exposed to many different levels of talent and playing styles, something that has not been lost on his own core values.

He teaches commitment, responsibility and effort along with softball and feels that players must support one another 110%. Everyone has mutual respect for one another and be able to freely communicate and offer other support. If a player is struggling---and teams often do---the team tries to understand the reason for the struggle and develop a plan to move forward. He believes that keeping a positive mental attitude is key to a successful resolution.

His off season expectations are to take a mental and physical break to recover from the season. It’s an opportunity to refresh but stay up on conditioning on their own as academics are king, with no questions asked. He says that ultimately, the athletes are in school to earn their respective degrees and having an opportunity to play softball is a bonus earned by their dedication to self, team, family and academic.

Coach Schall brings a wealth of knowledge and commitment to the game of softball and has positively impacted the lives of many athletes. He will be a great addition to our coach staff and his experience coaching high school and college players will benefit the goals of the athletes whose lives he will touch.
