Golden Eagles Wrestlers Fair Well On Day One at NCWA Nationals In Dallas

Wrestling at the 2019 National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) championships in Dallas, TX, four Golden Eagles wrestlers found the competition fast, furious and full on after the round one preliminaries on Thursday.

Early in the first round all four Navy and Gold wrestlers recorded pins and the day was off to a great start. After moving onto the winning line of their brackets, Elijah Nash, the 8th ranked 125lb. wrestler in the NCWA, finished 2-0 in the 125lb. division with a forfeit, while Lane Householder, the 3rd ranked wrestler at 149lb., recorded his second pin of the day and was also 2-0 as the pair made it to the championship round.

Wrestling at 157lb., Collin Mancuso, ranked 9th at 157lb., lost in his second match and then came back with his second pin of the day to go 2-1 in the early going, while Austin Bailey lost his second match and finished 1-1 as they were thrust into the consolation bracket.

After the afternoon break, Nash, a freshman in his first semester of collegiate competition, moved into the quarterfinals with his third victory ending day one undefeated with a 3-0 slate. Meanwhile, Householder lost for the first time and moved into the consolation bracket with a day-one record of 2-1 and Mancuso won again to improve to 3-1 while moving further into the consolation round. Bailey suffered his second loss at 141lb and was eliminated from the tournament as the 17th ranked wrestler in his NCWA class.

The second round preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. CST on Friday with Householder and Mancuso needing three wins to finish in the Top 5 of their respective divisions. Nash has a great chance to finish at, or, near the top of his division on the podium.
