Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2018 James A. Garfield High School senior to their baseball team. Kyle Turrentine has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles.

Turrentine was a three-sport letterman for the G-Men in baseball, football and basketball. He also won the Portage County Golden Glove Award during his senior season and was one of the top hitters on his high school team while playing shortstop and the outfield. He recently participated in the Diamond League Prospects Showcase. Turrentine has won a scholar-athlete award, the English Award and is on the James A. Garfield Honor Roll, earned an academic letter and has never earned less than a 3.8 GPA while in high school.

He has been involved in the making of and delivery of apple pies to Warren, Ohio residents for his church youth group, and has been instrumental in getting donations for the local food pantry. He is also the lead violinist for the Geauga Youth Orchestra.

"Kyle is a wonderful young man and is a great example of what being a student athlete means," said Adam Wilson, Head Baseball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. "He is well-respected and liked in his school and community and is an all-around athlete. He has great hands and playing wide receiver and corner back in football have sharpened those skills and given him some mental toughness. Kyle is a great addition to our baseball team and he will be a huge asset on and off the field. We are very happy to have him as a Golden Eagle."
