Two late runs were not enough as the Golden Eagles baseball team fell short to Ohio University Lancaster at Beavers Field in Lancaster 6-4.

The home standing Cougars jumped on top when they scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and tallied three more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead on the visiting Navy and Gold.

KSU Tusc would strike for two runs in the top of the fifth inning as Lucas Kail singled home two runners. Kade Rainsberg had started the inning with a single and stole second, then moved to third on a single by Easton Guspyt. With one out, Kail swatted a line shot to the outfield to score both runners and the lead was narrowed to 5-2.

The Cougars added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning before the Eagles changed pitchers. Rainsberg was hit by a line drive on the mound and was removed from the game after collecting himself and throwing out the runner at first. Austin Black came on in relief and shut down the OUL offense, not allowing a run over the final three innings.

Trevor Donaldson led off the seventh inning with a double down the left field line and scored after the OUL pitcher threw the ball into centerfield on a pickoff attempt. Donaldson raced home from second to make the score 6-3, but that was all the Eagle would get in the inning. In visiting half of the eighth, Blaze Clark smashed this third home run of the season with one out as the Eagles got to within 6-4, before Black was stranded at second base after hitting a single though the mound and into centerfield.

Black led the Golden Eagles at the plate going 3/3 with three singles, Rainsberg was 2/3 with two singles, Blaze Clark was 2/4 with a homer and Trevor Donaldson added a double as the only extra base hit for KSU Tusc. Kail had two RBIs.

The Eagles come home and host a three-game series with Bluefield State on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game is a nine-inning game that starts at 4 p.m. and Sunday's doubleheader begins at 11 a.m.

Blaze Clark hit his third homer of the year against OU Lancaster.
