A late surge by Andrews University fueled by a stretch of Golden Eagles turnovers, allowed the Cardinals to escape Founders Hall gym with an 82-61 road win. The Red and Black were locked in a battle by a much smaller Navy and Gold team for most of the afternoon before employing a trapping defense which took its toll.

The Golden Eagles took an 7-0 lead before Andrews got on the board, and the lead surged to a nine point advantage by virtue of some accurate three point shooting. Andrews would not go away and made a late first half run to grab a 33-32 lead at the break.

Early in the second half, the Golden Eagles heated up from long distance again and stretched a second half lead to as many as 11 points before Andrews made another nice run dumping the ball into the low post. Things were tied at 53-53 before Mike Huberty (Alliance, OH / Marlington), hit a three pointer and was fouled on a driving layup. Huberty converted on the layup and foul shot to spot the Golden Eagles to a 59-53 lead before Andrews answered with a flurry of points.

The Cardinals turned up the pressure defense and forced four straight turnovers before the hosts got a viable shot at the basket but missed. In the last several minutes miscues led to easy looks in the lane for the Cardinals and a near lopsided score in a close game.

Huberty led the Golden Eagles with 17 points making four three pointers, while Malik Campbell (Canton, OH / Canton South) added 13 and Jacob Hicks (Canton, OH / Central Catholic) had 12.

The Navy and Gold return to action tomorrow night, Monday, December 17 versus Lourdes University at 6 p.m.
