The Kent State Tuscarawas basketball team is one of two bubble teams awaiting finals bids for post season tournament play in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national tournament.

The USCAA Championship selection show was held on Friday and the Golden Eagles fate lies in the hands of three teams playing for conference championships this weekend.

If either Penn State Wilkes Barre or Penn State Mont Alto win the Penn State University Athletic Conference championship, combined with a loss by New Hampshire Technical Institute in the Yankee Small College Conference championships, the Eagles will make it into the tournament as the No. 10 seed and will more than likely face No. 7 Vermont Tech (22-7) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Penn State Fayette in Uniontown, PA. The winner would then square off against No. 2 Central Penn (16-4) on Monday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m.

Final bids will be awarded early Monday morning after the PSUAC and YSCC tournaments have concluded.

The Navy and Gold finished 16-12 on the season after starting 2-7 against NAIA, NCAA D-III and NJCAA opponents. During that early stretch they suffered one-point losses at Thomas More University and against Defiance College and dropped four games by a total of 10 points. The 14-5 season turnaround was spurred on by stiff early season competition reflected in the Eagles schedule that ranked 23rd in the nation with a power percentile of 81%.

They began the new year with six straight victories and won 10 of their first 11 games in 2020. During their successful run, they recorded victories over three nationally ranked teams and nearly surprised NCAA D-II Bluefield State College on the road losing by six points after leading for 36 of the games 40 minutes.

The Golden Eagles ranked in the Top 10 in five team categories including; points scored 2323 (4th), field goals made per game 31.7 (7th), field goal percentage 46.4 (7th), points per game 83.0 (9th) and assists per game 16.3 (9th).

Freshman Andre Leavell leads four KSU Tusc double-digit scorers with 16.8 points per game, is ranked sixth in the USCAA in field goals made (191) and ninth in points scored (469). Malik Campbell is second on the team at 13.8 points per game, is eighth in steals (58) and 12th in assists with 106. Senior Gunnar Tharp is next at 13.7 points per game, ranks second in made 3-point shots made with 91 and has scored 1781 career points. Braden Rostad adds 10.9 points per game and is seventh in made 3-point shots with 69.
