Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2023 Holy Cross High School (Covington, KY) senior to their men's basketball team.

Javier Ward recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

Ward was a four-year letter winner for the Holy Cross Indians basketball team and joined the 1000 Career Point club his senior season. In 2022-23 he was named to the Kentucky All-Classic Statewide All-Tournament team, was recognized by the Northern Kentucky Coaches Association All-Conference Team in Division 2, made the 9th Region All-Classic All-Tournament team twice and was tabbed as Most Improved player at Holy Cross. In 2021 and 2022 Ward merited honors as the Mike Swagger Holiday Classic Player of the Game, the Billy Hicks Classic All-Tournament team and the Billy Hicks Classic Player of the Game. He also starred for the Holy Cross football team and captured the Best Offensive Receiver award in 2021.

His community service includes involvement in the Holy Cross Athletic Department mulch sale, he was part of the clean-up crew for the Holy Cross church festival, staffed the concession stand at football and basketball games and also helped with junior basketball camps.

He will pursue a Bachelor's of Business Administration in Business Management degree at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"Javier has great judgement and is an excellent communicator" said Richard Tharp, Head Men's Basketball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. "He is a true floor general and his steady improvement is shown by how he has minimized mistakes on the court. He makes his teammates better and has shown he is dangerous on both ends of the floor as a solid defender and a top scorer."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
