Blue Streaks Brown Commits To Golden Eagles Basketball

Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2023 Lake High School graduate to their basketball team.

On June 30, 2023, Josiah Brown signed a National Letter of Intent to suit up for the Golden Eagles.

Brown was a four-year letter winner in basketball and played for Uniontown Lake High School during his junior and senior seasons. The Blue Streaks play in the Federal Conference of the Northeast District. He earned team Most Valuable Player twice at Rootstown High School where he also lettered in track and cross country his freshman and sophomore years. He also played on five AAU Tournament Championship teams. During his sophomore year he ran a personal best three mile (19:20) to help RHS win the Portage Trail Confrence (PTC) Cross Country Championship.

Academically, he had a 3.2 GPA and was awarded the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Scholarship his Freshman through Senior Year. He was also accepted into the Honors Society through Lake High School and completed many highly advanced classes such as graphic design, digital photography, and public speaking with the highest score in all of those classes.

His community service includes kids' ministry through his church, participating in "serve day" for his church where he helped fix up buildings and schools. He also volunteered at kids' basketball camps and coached in kids basketball leagues throughout his high school career.

He will pursue a Bachelor's of Business Administration / Business Management degree at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"Josiah has worked hard and has the ability to excel at this level of play," said Rich Tharp, Head Basketball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. "Everyone you talk to has nothing but good things to say about him. He excels in the classroom and loves to give back to his community. As a basketball player he has done well throughout his high school career, but we expect him to continue improving throughout his collegiate career. We welcome him as a member of the Golden Eagles Basketball team."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
