Quakers' Wright Commits To Golf With The Golden Eagles

Kent State University Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2019 New Philadelphia High School (NPHS) graduate to their men's golf team. On July 23, 2019, Dakota Wright, signed a National Letter of Intent to golf for the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles.

Wright was a four-year letterman for the Quakers golf team and was named Best of Preps Tusc in golf for three consecutive years (2017, 2018, 2019). He was also the recipient of the NPHS Low Average award all four years of high school (2015-2018) and garnered All-District honors three times, making the Second Team in 2017 and 2018, while earning Honorable Mention in his freshman season. He was named to the East Central Ohio League (ECOL) Second Team his junior year and received an ECOL Honorable Mention twice. In 2015, he was an individual qualifier for the district tournament.

He recently received the Lou Contini Scholarship through LifeWay Church, along with the Dean and Gladys Coutts Memorial Leadership Scholarship from the New Philadelphia Quaker Foundation.  Wright made the Honor Roll at NPHS six times over a two-year period, won two Academic Letters and was a 2018 Student of the Month nominee. He attends LifeWay Church in New Philadelphia, volunteers at the church's food pantry and "A Night of Hope" outreach event that distributes coats and food to the less fortunate.

"I am so honored to have a young man of Dakota's caliber commit to our program," said Rob Brindley, Head Men's Golf Coach at Kent State Tuscarawas. "I have known Dakota for several years and he's always impressed me with his maturity, work ethic, attention to detail and his gentle nature. He genuinely cares about others and everything he invests his time and attention to. He will make us a much better team on and off the course."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
