The golf team played in a match play event on the Robert Trent Jones Speidel Course at Oglebay Golf Resort in Wheeling, WVA, on Tuesday, and came home winners against two opposing teams.

It was freshmen who carried the Golden Eagles on a very blustery day that saw two rounds of hail and multiple downpours of rain accompanied by thunder and distant lightning.

The Golden Eagles downed Waynesburg College 3-2 on the strength of newcomers, Trent Marsh and Cole Eltringham who won their matches by wide margins. Marsh had the upper hand by having a cushion of seven winning holes with six holes left in the match (7&6), while Eltringham's match was stopped after the 15th hole having secured a 4&3 victory.

Also winning was fellow frosh Nicholas Wolverton who claimed a one-up decision on the final hole of play. Nick Reeder and Cameron McIntosh both finished second in their respective matchups.

KSU Tusc won handily 5-0 over host Bethany College in an unconventional tri match play event, where a winning hole would earn two points and finishing second garnered one point.

The golf team travels to Lancaster, OH, on Saturday for the OU Lancaster Invitational and then to DuBois, PA, on Sunday for the PSU DuBois Invitational to end the regular season. They should qualify to the USCAA National Golf Championships in State College, PA, on October 9-11.
