On the first day of the USCAA National Golf Championships in State College, PA, KSU Tusc's Leah Wright shot her way to a fourth place finish a chilly and blustery day on Penn State's Blue Course. With a team score of 337---three strokes higher than their season average---the Golden Eagles men's team sits in 10th place in the two-day event.
After a cold start in the gusty 30 mph winds, Wright recovered with a round of 39 on the outward nine for a nice three over par finish with six pars and a birdie on the ninth hole. She shot 45 on the inward nine for a fine score of 84 just three strokes from first place.
The men were led by Austen Gunn 38/42/80, Connor Rippeth 40/44/84, Cole Eltringham 43/43/86 and Drew Gallant 43/44/87 as they seek to earn KSU Tusc's eighth Top 10 finish in their last nine seasons.
Final round action takes place on Tuesday with a frost delay expected along with day high of 48. Early morning temperatures are expected to dip to 36.
