Golden Eagles Sign Mansfield Sr. Catcher

Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2021 Mansfield Senior High School graduate to their softball team. On Monday, Briana Perry signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

Perry, primarily a catcher, was a four-year letter winner for the Tygers softball team and was ranked 20th in the 2021 Mansfield News-Journal's Richland County Queen of Diamonds softball players to watch preview. Known as a power hitter who began her senior year hitting over .727 through the first four games of the season, she earned Second Team Ohio Cardinal Conference (OCC) honors. She also made the OCC Second Team as a sophomore and Honorable mention as a freshman.

Academically, she is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars which recognizes young scholars academic achievements for earning a 3.5 GPA or higher, along with being ranked in the Top 10% of their high school class. For her efforts in the classroom, she was awarded the Brittany Ling Memorial Scholarship, the Pete Henry Award and also earned a top rating in the District 10 high school solo and ensemble adjudicated event in class 'c' held at Mansfield Sr. High School.

She will pursue a veterinary technology degree at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"Briana is a very solid addition to our team and KSU Tusc," said Chuck Peach, Head Softball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. "She is so inspirational and makes everybody around her better. She can knock the cover off a softball and is a very dependable behind the plate. Briana is going to have a major impact in our run production and overall success."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
