Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2021 East Canton High School graduate to their softball team. On August 10, Kaley Steigerwald signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

Steigerwald, primarily a catcher/shortstop, was a three-year letter winner for the Wizards varsity softball team. She earned First Team Inter Valley Conference (IVC) honors her senior year and was also recognized on the First Team North East Ohio District. Previously, she had earned First Team IVC Conference and Second Team North East Ohio District after her sophomore season, and was was named Second Team IVC as a freshman when she also earned an Honorable Mention North East Ohio District. In 2021, she tied for the second highest batting average in Stark County (.554), slugged nine homeruns and 29 RBIs, and amassed a slugging percentage of .998. She also has playing experience with the Ohio Emeralds 14u and 16u teams and the Ohio Softball Club 18u team.

Academically, Steigerwald was on the ECHS Honor Roll for all four years of high school and made the Honor Roll in the Sports Medicine Program offered through Canton South High School. She also earned a CPR certification and physical therapist assistant certification while in high school.

She will pursue a bachelor's degree in early childhood education at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"I remember how impressed I was when I saw her play as a sophomore," said Chuck Peach, Head Softball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. "To have her coming to play for us is almost surreal. The first time I heard the crack of her bat, I knew she was a solid hitter. She also calls a great game behind the plate and has a live arm. Not many people chance a second steal attempt on her. It's good that she has also gotten playing experience in the infield, because she will definitely help shore up our middle."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
