Golden Eagles Grapplers 7th at Washington & Lee Invite

The Kent State Tuscarawas wrestling team rang in the new year by participating in the Washington & Lee University Invitational in Virginia on Saturday. The event was held at Southern Virginia University due to construction on the WLU campus and the Navy and Gold finished seventh in a very strong field of eight teams. The Golden Eagles finished with 31.5 points on the day which outpaced Gettysburg College by 10 points, but was well short of the winning totall of 202 points posted by Ferrum College.

Newcomer Elijah Nash (Canton, OH / McKinley Senior) finished fifth in the 125lb. weight class, losing his first match of the day to the eventual champion from Ferrum College but winning three straight matches in the consolation bracket. He captured the fifth place position with a pin. Sophomore, Lane Householder (Thornville, OH / Sheridan) also was a fifth place finisher on the day, as he won his first two matches by pins and lost by pin to the eventual champion in the 149lb. weight class from host Washington & Lee University. Householder secured his position with a 40 second pin over an opponent from Ferrum College.

The Golden Eagles have two matches coming up this week, with a dual scheduled versus Penn State Fayette on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 7 p.m. and the Golden Eagles Duals on Saturday, January 12 beginning at 12 p.m.
