Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the recent signing of Two 2019 Columbus Mifflin High School graduates to their wrestling team. Eric Shaw and Tawon Cannon signed their Letter of Intent last week to be a member of the Wrestling Team for the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles.

Eric Shaw, who will wrestle 184lbs, is a Three-year letter winner for the Punchers.  He registered 69 career wins, including being a two-time district qualifier and a three-time placer in the Columbus City Tournament, including being a champion and runner-up.  He was the champion at the Groverport Madison and Maple Heights Tournaments this season and placed at others throughout the season.  His wrestling career was cut short this year by injury prior to the district tournament.  Outside of the wrestling room, Eric has been very active with the law Enforcement Program at Columbus Downton High School and had the opportunity to work at some of the world-class events hosted in Columbus.  Eric will major in Criminal Justice at Kent State Tusc.

Tawon Cannon, who will wrestle at 133lbs or 141lbs, comes to the Eagles as a three-sport athlete that served as team Co-Captain for all three sports. His senior year he was a district qualifier and named the Most Improved Wrestler.  Cannon helped lead the football and is the school record holder in the 300m hurdles.  Tawon was a regional qualifier for track in 2019 and given the Coach's Award for his efforts.  Outside of sports, Tawon is in AP Language Arts classes, and serves as a reading buddy at Innis Elementary as well as being a part of the Faces of Mifflin program that speaks with troubled children in the greater Columbus area.  Tawon will major in Communications at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"These two young men have been outstanding athletes for Mifflin High School and we are pleased they have chosen to be a part of our program" said Dave Schlarb, Head Wrestling Coach.  "Tawon and Eric have had great success in high school because they have worked hard.  They are great young men who bring a lot of potential for greatness both on the mat in the classroom."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
