Two Wrestlers Earn Podium Spots At Battler Royale

The wrestling team participated in the inaugural Battler Royale, hosted by Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, WV on Saturday. In a field stacked with NCAA D-II teams, the Golden Eagles managed to snare a second and fourth place finish.

Freshman, Derek Skeehan, earned the silver medal in the 285lb. weight class and finished the day with a fine 2-1 record. His lone loss was to the eventual champion from Alderson Broaddus. Devan Welch, also a first-year Eagles wrestler finished fourth at heavyweight with a 2-2 record and Mason Contini also finished 2-2 on the day.

Other combatants in the field besides the hosts were; Ohio Valley University, Davis and Elkins and Garrett County Community College.

Next up for the wrestlers is the Scotty Wood Duals at Muhlenberg College, located in Allentown, PA on September 23. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
