After grabbing a 2-1 set lead, the Golden Eagles volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Ohio University Lancaster on Sunday in Founders Hall Gym. The Eagles had beaten OUL in five sets on the Cougars home floor a couple of weeks ago.
The Navy and Gold raced to a 15-7 lead prompting the Cougars to spend two quick timeouts. With Ciera Romig serving, the Eagles scored 12 straight points to take the opener 25-7. OUL bounced back to take a 10-9 lead in the second set and the Eagles got no closer as they lost 25-21.
The visitors started strong in the third set and led the whole way until KSU tied things at 13-13. With the set still knotted at 20-20 and then 23-23, it was the Eagles who scored the final two points for a 25-23 win. The Cougars led throughout the entirety of the fourth set and led 20-13 before KSU willed themselves to within 24-20 but eventually lost 25-21 and the match was tied 2-2. The final set was back and forth again with the Eagles claiming their last lead at 7-6, as the Cougars took control and snuffed out a late comeback winning the deciding set 15-13.
It was a big day for Mya Blochlinger who had 14 kills and added two digs and three blocks. Karlee Peach had 23 assists, four kills and two digs.
