Volleyball Drops Opener To Clark State 0-3

The KSU Tuscarawas Golden Eagles volleyball team opened their season on the road and lost to a red-hot Clark State team in three straight sets.

KSU Tuscarawas dropped the match 13-25, 19-25, 15-25 as the homestanding Golden Eagles improved their early season record to 3-0, having shut out their first three opponents in similar fashion without allowing a set victory.

Things didn't start well for the Navy and Gold as they fell behind early in the opening set 5-0, before they could get on the scoreboard. The hosts had three 5-0 runs and another of 4-0 as they built a 23-7 lead over KSU Tusc's Golden Eagles. Clark State overcame five service errors in the opener to get the 25-13 win.

In the second frame, KSU rallied as they forced Clark State into seven ties and five lead changes. Neither team was able to gain more than a two-point advantage deep into the set, until CSCC ripped off four straight points to break open a tight game (21-19) to win the set 25-19.

On the strength of a 4-0 and 6-0 spurt, Clark State led the third match 10-4 and the two teams traded points at the midway point. Another pair of runs spotted the winners to a 24-11 advantage before they closed out the match with a 25-15 victory.

Mya Blochlinger (Millerburg, OH / Hiland) led KSU Tusc with six kills, six digs, eight points and two services aces, while Jamie Myers (Grove City, OH / Grove City) had eight digs and six points to go along with three service aces. Megan Stotzer (Mineral City, OH / Tuscarawas Valley) added 12 assists and Alyssa Hughes (Mogadore, OH / Mogadore) had nine digs.

KSU Tusc is 0-1 on the season and travel to Hocking College on Sunday.
