The Kent State Tuscarawas volleyball team dropped their season opener at Clark State in Springfield, Ohio, on Saturday, 3-1.
A team full of youth with six freshman, one sophomore and a new coach, the Golden Eagles had trouble finding some continuity as they dropped the first two sets of the match by identical 25-11 scores. In the third set however, the navy and gold gutted out a 25-21 victory before dropping the deciding set of the match 25-13.
Freshmen ruled the day for the Eagles as Taliyah Johnson scored 11 points and Lizzy Keller had nine. Johnson had 10 kills on 22 attempts for a 45% hitting percentage to go along with nine digs, while Keller led with 11 kills (41%) and 10 digs. Cami Kimple had 29 assists and six digs and Alicia Cannon added eight digs.
Next up for the Eagles is a match at Lakeland Community College on Wednesday, with opening serve at 6:00 p.m.
