Lady Bears Shrimplin Commits to Golden Eagles Volleyball

Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2023 River View High School graduate to their women's volleyball team.

Cayla Shrimplin recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

Shrimplin was a three-year letter winner for the Lady Bears volleyball team and also lettered in softball and track. She finished her career as the all-time digs leader at RVHS with 1185, an average of 15.5 digs per match. In three years, she also had an impressive 85.8 service percentage in 734 attempts and scored 385 points. She made just 12 ball handling errors in 1062 attempts and received 1454 serves while committing just 113 serve receive errors.

In volleyball, as a sophomore she earned Honorable Mention Muskingum Valley League (MVL) and Honorable Mention District 5. In her junior year she earned Second Team MVL honors, was Honorable Mention District 5, while she was named to the Second Team District 5, First team MVL and MVL defensive Player-of-the-Year following her senior season.

In track & field, Shrimplin was on a 4x200 relay team that qualified for the state meet and placed 10th in 2023 and also qualified for the state finals in her sophomore year. Her fastest time in the 200 meter dash places her third overall in River View history and she has the seventh best time overall in the 400m. She is also on the school's first overall 4x100 relay team and a member of the 4x200 and 4x400 teams that both rank fourth fastest in school history.

Academically, she earned honor roll and merit roll all four years of high school. She also received Scholar Athlete awards in all sports she played, was on the River View National Honor Society for two years, teen leadership for one year and served on student council for three years.

Her community service includes involvement as a leader of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for three years and as a 4-H camp counselor for two years. 

She will pursue an Associate's of Applied Science in Nursing at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"Cayla is very well-rounded and is probably one of the hardest working athletes I have ever seen" said Cortney Goodwin, Head Volleyball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. "She attacks everything she does and if you push her, she won't pullback and will work even harder. She is a very gifted athlete and student and is a real joy to be around."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
