Eagles Outlast Lakeland To Improve Record To 5-1

The Golden Eagles traveled to Kirtland, OH, Wednesday evening to take on Lakeland Community College, a team that they swept 3-0 just two weeks ago. It was the same result this time, but the Lakers gave the navy and gold much more of a challenge this time out.

KSU Tusc just didn't seem to show any overall consistency and found themselves in an early hole, as the Lakers led by as many as six points in the opening set. They did rally back and benefitted from several unforced errors by LCC to overtake the hosts by a 26-24 margin. In the second set, the Eagles came out with a little more fire and played much better as they built an eight-point lead. And, just as the Eagles rallied themselves back in the first stanza, the Lakers made a furious rally but could get no closer than two points as KSU Tusc pulled out a 25-23 win for a 2-0 lead.

In what would be the deciding set, the Eagles were never headed in the third set and won rather convincingly 25-14 for a fourth three-set victory of the season out of their five wins.

Addison Gordon led KSU Tusc with nine kills and 12.5 points, while Lizzy Keller had eight put aways and Alivia Spaulding six. Cayla Shrimplin dug 23 balls, while Keller had 11 and Kylie Culbertson had 25 assists. As a team the Eagles record eight service aces.

On Saturday, the Golden Eagles travel to Penn State DuBois to take on Penn State Mont Alto at 2 p.m. and then face the hosts at 4 p.m. in tri match play.
