Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2022 Youngstown Chaney High School graduate to their basketball team.

On September 1, Davinci McDowell signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

McDowell, primarily a 6'2" shooting guard/stretch forward, was a two-year letter winner for the Cowboys basketball team and also earned a letter in cross country. He played on two consecutive district championship teams and received the Starbound Hoops and Chris Gunther Show MVP Awards, along with being highlighted on sports profiles produced by the WFMJ and WYTV television stations in Youngstown.

Academically, he earned a 3.2 GPA and certificates in CPR, First Aid, AED, FEMA and Stop the Bleed. His community service includes the Youngstown Flea---a marketplace for small local vendors, NOW Youngstown, Victory Kids---a church group that mentors young children and YNDC---a group that cleans up abandoned houses and properties in the Youngstown area.

He will pursue a Bachelor's in early childhood education at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"Davinci has engineered himself into a great spot for a young man," said Richard Tharp, Head Basketball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. "He has played on the big stage against Akron St. V-St. M in a district final where he acquitted himself very well scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while also showing his family, school and community that he is a leader and a very grounded young man. We are proud to have Davinci as a part of our family and feel that, for a young man who has accomplished so much, he still has much more to give."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
