Like the lyrics to Jerry Reed's song say, "When You're Hot, You're Hot", and that aptly described the Golden Eagles blitzkrieg of Maine – Fort Kent in Founders Hall on Monday night in an 86-43 win.

And just like Homer Jones and Big John Talley, KSU Tusc's luck was so good they could do no wrong as they just kept rollin' and controllin' the game building an insurmountable 41-11 lead after the opening 20 minutes had expired. For all intents and purposes, the visiting Bengals could have thrown up their hands after the first 13 and one-half minutes of the game, as they failed to get a field goal until the 6:27 mark of the first half.

The Eagles scored off the opening tip as DeJuan Lawrence tapped the ball to a basket streaking London Cobbs for an easy deuce. Soon after, Lawrence hit two outside jumpers and a back door dunk by Kameron Shockley made it 8-0. Shockley was called for hanging on the rim and Fort Kent converted a free throw to score their first point of the game.

A 23-1 run by the Eagles ensued as they went for broke with a series of highlight dunks off missed offensive shots. They ended the first half like they entered it, scoring the final eight points via a Kameron Shockley drive and a backdoor dunk on a lob from Braden Rostad who was lined up for a three, a Lawrence halfcourt steal followed by a thunderous one-handed slam and a theft and lay in from Vinnie Roper for a 30-point lead at the break.

In the second half the onslaught continued as the Eagles led by as many as 47 points after a Kyle Shockley three-ball with 5:37 left in the game.

Somewhere in the distance Jerry Reed's voice echoed, "When you hot, you hot".

Fourteen Golden Eagles cracked the scoring column led by Kameron Shockley's 19, 17 from Lawrence and 11 from Kyle Shockley. Lawrence produced his seventh double-double on the season as he wiped the boards clean with 13 rebounds while also coming up with four steals.

The win ups KSU Tusc's record to 11-5 on the season. Currently ranked No. 7 in the USCAA DII, the Eagles host No. 5 ranked Villa Maria College on Thursday at 4 pm. Tickets are $5 at the door.
