Mustangs Morris To Play For Golden Eagles

Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a 2022 Claymont High School senior to their softball team.

On May 19, Savanna Morris signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

Morris plays catcher and first base and was a three-year letter winner for the Mustangs. She is a 2021-2022 Inter Valley Conference (IVC) Scholar Athlete Award recipient and was a Second Team IVC selection as a freshman, when she batted .450 collecting 36 hits and knocking in 18 runs. She was also named Offensive Player of the Year for Claymont in 2019 and had a batting average over .300 in each of her varsity seasons.

Academically, she carries a 3.6 cumulative GPA in the enriched college preparatory program, is a member of the National Honor Society and served on the CHS Student Council for three years. She took College Credit Plus classes at Kent State Tuscarawas in psychology and Spanish and was also a member of the National Junior Honor Society. As a volunteer, she has served as a member of multiple peer tutor groups at Claymont.

She will pursue a Bachelor's of Science in zoology at Kent State Tuscarawas.

"Savanna is a very determined young lady in everything she does," said Chuck Peach, Head Softball Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. "She has outstanding leadership skills and great communication skills, which are important tools for catchers who are essentially on field coaches. She also has a live bat and is an especially a hard out with runners on base."

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
